Maybe because Ehlich likes to think of himself as the smartest guy in the room and you know something - he is. Lets face it - he is surrounded by
fools of the kind Dave Bergeron would describe as "one-dimensional" carpenters. These guys barely have high school educations. If Bergeron was still
there, these dynasaurs would be dust. They would not fit into his new union management style of "results oriented" performance. The only performance
these guy know - is how to kiss Ehlich's ass and cash his checks. It just the way is it brother. You don't need much academics to become a carpenter.
Its brawn and tool sense. Ehlich has a masters degree intellect. It has has some tool sense but is missing a finger. Mark is good writing history
books about carpenters - they are required reading for apprentices. Craft history is vitally important to the union movement. Like safety awareness,
knowing the history of the trade boosts the jobsite IQs. Hallelujah Mark for your books. Honestly.
.
O'brien is just as smart, hard working and results oriented. Umm...Is that why Bergeron hired him? Wise and humble I have never seen any oneupmanship .
Not afraid to talk to power be it contractor or EST. Members, trade union officials, contractors, politicians and building owners/ developers
respected him because of doing the right thing by him. Pocessing these positive traits is a potent combination that may have threaten the smartest
guy in the room. So you figure it out if can. The members lose an effective advocate of their interests. And ultimately, so does the UBC. There
should be more that one smart guy in the room don't you think?
